Omura Kyotei (Motorboat Racing)

Omura is the birthplace of Japan motorboat racing. The first motorboat race was held in 1952 on a course built in Omura Bay. Currently, there are 24 Boat Race courses around Japan. Motorboat racing is one of the 4 public sports where gambling has been legalized. The other three are horse, bicycle and motorbike racing.

Omura Boat Race was initially established as a financial resource for Omura City. A portion of the revenue brought by the races is used for the city and its residents.
