Nagasaki Airport

Nagasaki Airport is the first airport in the world to be built on an island. The island it is built on is called Mishima and before construction began in 1972, it was inhabited. The airport functions both domestically and internationally. Construction began in 1972 and was completed in 1975. It opened on May 1, 1975. Due to the flight service extending to Shanghai, China, the runway was lengthened to 3,000meters in 1979.
Nagasaki Airport services routes to major cities in Japan; islands belonging to Nagasaki Prefecture; Shanghai, China; and Seoul, Korea. International flights do not happen on a daily basis.
