The Omura City Tree

Omura City officials invited the public to participate in a vote of which tree would be most symbolic of their town. Most participants voted for the Kashi (oak). However, there were many kinds of Kashi, so the Ichiigashi (Blum oak) was designated because it grows in a forest in Omura that was selected as a natural national monument. The Ichiigashi became the City Tree in 1989.
