Kayaze Dam

Kayaze Dam is in the Kayaze area of northeast Omura. It dams the water of the Kori River which flows from the Tara Mountains to Omura Bay and was developed for irrigation and flood control. Construction was completed in 1961 after much skepticism of its necessity. It was a delicate topic for the local people because of mandatory relocation of homes, schools and other establishments. Because the dam became of source of water for not only Omura, but other surrounding towns, reconstruction for raising its size was completed in 2000. Its capacity is now 6,810,000 cubic meters.
